If you know me at all, you know I love this diy skin care routine almost as much as I love all things neutral + soft pink (almost).
Two rules I live by when it comes to my skin .
1) I'm a firm believer that less is more
2) True beauty starts from this inside out! mindset + nutrition are game changers
These beliefs combined with my super sensitive skin leads me to spend one too many hours on pinterest looking for annoyingly trendy ways I can be minimalistic and still get the results I need! With some trial and error I have found that the following routine leaves my skin feeling light + fresh. Of course, I still get the occasional hormonal flare-up here and there, but I feel like with this routine, I have finally found my sweet spot!
nothing. seriously nothing. It took about a month for my skin to get used to not having so much product, but it was worth it. If I got sweaty from a workout, I will since with water + lightly pat dry. If my skin happens to feel dry I will apply a light layer of jojoba oil, let that sit for at least 30 min and then apply make-up. I find this allows my skin to feel extra smooth + fresh!
In the evening, I use about a quarter size of jojoba oil to remove my eye make-up. I gently massage my eyelashes, and rinse my face until all of the oil is off. After patting my face dry, I apply a light layer of jojoba oil to moisturize my skin. *haha!* I'm literally laughing out loud at how obsessed I sound with jojoba oil, but ladies I swear by this!
Now to the fun part! I am o b s e s s e d with this DIY skin exfoliant. I typically will use this once a week, sometimes twice if my skin is feeling extra dry (darn winter!) I found the ingredient ideas on pinterest and have discovered my skin reacts best to the following recipe:
1/2 C brown sugar
1/4 C honey
3 Tbsp jojoba oil
10-15 drops lavender EO
Brown Sugar: I love using this as the base vs other exfoliants because I find the softer particles are most gentle on my sensitive skin, yet strong enough to do just the exfoliating my skin needs.
Honey: Honey is a natural antibactiral (so I guess I do "wash" my face weekly?!) and is loaded with antioxidants >> this leads to a smooth complexion + glowing skin!
Jojoba Oil: ohhhhh how I love you. Jojoba oil is closest to our skins natural oil, which is probably why I find my body reacts best to its goodness! Loaded with vitamin E + B-complex vitamins, my skin always feels smooth, calm, and moisturized after I gently apply! If I am out of jojoba oil I will sub with coconut oil. Coconut oil works great, but I find sometimes feels a little too heavy when applied to my face.
Lavender EO: Not only does this make the exfoliant smell ah-mazing, I find its relaxing properties calms any flare ups I have.
Pimple Flare Up
Ladies, I tried this for the first time the other day and omg IT WORKED. I woke up to a couple of those deep, painful, bright red pimples the other day (so sexy), did a quick pinterest search and found this routine actually worked!
I push the end of a q-tip into a lemon and applied the fresh juice directly on to the infected area. After letting that sit for 5 min, I gently rinsed off the juice and applied a light layer of honey. I let that sit overnight and could not believe how much the redness and irritation was reduced by the time I woke up! Although it left my pillow sticky, I would say this was a win.
